Two renowned Filipino professors have decided to launch their books in Roxas City.

It brings pride and honor to the Province of Capiz that Dr. Alicia Magos of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and Dr. Maria Christine Muyco of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) will be launching their books at Ang Panublion Museum in Roxas City this June 27.

The event, known as “Epics, Music and Bird Dance,” will feature Dr. Magos' Amburukay (UP Press), the new volume in the Panay Bukidnon epic series, and Dr. Muyco’s Sibud and Mumunting Tinig (Ateneo de Manila Press), which are about Panay Bukidnon’s Binanog Music and Dance.

Dr. Alicia P. Magos is an anthropologist and professor emerita at U.P. Visayas who did extensive study and published works on the Panay Bukidnon culture of Western Visayas. She embarked on her work about the Sugidanon in 1992 through a grant from the French government, discovering 10 epics: Tikun Kadlom, Amburukay, Derikaryong Pada, Balanakon, Kalampay, Pahagunong, Sinagnayan, Humadapnon sa Tarangban, Nagburuhisan, and Alayaw.

8 Reasons Why You’ll Want to Visit Pilar, Capiz, Again and Again

I was glad to spend a weekend in Pilar last October thanks to the invitation of a good friend, tour guide, and shell craft artist, Gi Biana. Of course I shouldn’t miss the chance to write something (no matter how belated) about this quaint town 45 minutes away from Roxas City.

Pilar is a town of many wonders. It is blessed by the bounty of the land (just look at the expansive sugarcane and rice fields that dot its countryside) and the wealth of the sea. Get your bags ready and head to Pilar where a curnocopia of folklore, natural bounty, and adventure will complete your holiday.

Capiz Caps Heritage Month Celebration with a Showcase of the Province’s Cultural Masters

The month of May every year is National Heritage Month, in accordance with Proclamation No. 439, s. 2003, and this year’s theme is “Pamilya para sa Pamana” (Family for Heritage). In an effort to enable Capiznons to have a greater connection with the province’s rich history and culture, the Capiz Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO) held the Dungog Capiznon Youth Heritage Camp from May 27-29 at Vicente Andaya, Sr., National High School in Sigma, Capiz. Participants were high school and college students from all over the province. Ati and Panay Bukidnon participants were also invited to join the event.

The highlight, however, was the participants' encounter with cultural masters at Capiz Eco Park in Brgy. Nagba, Cuartero, on May 28th. The participants got the chance to hobnob with cultural masters, who are culture bearers of the different intangible heritages of the province.
